OUR WHY

Now more than ever, youth and young adults are struggling with addiction and the subsequent toll it takes on their own mental health, as well as their families. In 2023, the overdose death rate topped 112,000 in a 12 month period, and alcohol related deaths have exceeded 140,000 each year. Our local Mental Health care system has felt this strain, with declining access to care and climbing expenses that can be difficult for families to afford. With the help of our community and through establishing Carey’s 5k, we hope to use the proceeds to improve local youths’ access to treatment at Crossroads, a local enthusiastic sobriety treatment center. We want to provide those young adults struggling with addiction the opportunity of sobriety and a new outlook on life, despite the financial burdens they may face.

Our “why” starts with Carey. Carey Berger was a beautiful, kind, and amazing young woman who passed away unexpectedly in November 2021. She was a daughter, sister, soon-to-be aunt, and a loyal friend to so many. Our goal is to take Carey’s passion for helping others, and make a difference in our community.
